July Goals

Holy crap it’s July! It is officially half way through the year! This makes me more than slightly panicky from a work perspective. Where did the first half of the year go!? From a training perspective, I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ve been very unsure of what races I would be able to do due to possible unexpected traveling that I haven’t really been doing race countdowns in my head. At this point it’s looking very, very likely I’ll do the Lake Logan International. I’d actually be surprised if I couldn’t do it. That said, countdown begin! 5.5 weeks… ok not too bad. Actually if I had to I could do the race right now but I feel this need to be overly prepared (ran 14 before my half marathon).

Overall, I'm very happy with how June went. This is the first month I've had where each week felt like solid training and I had a steady increase in weekly hours. I'm starting to see progress in biking which in part I'm thinking is due to the last two weekends of lots of climbing. Not only has it physically made me a strong cyclist but I feel more confident with my abilities as well. I've continued to see slight improvements in swimming as well if I look at the overall trend. Running I always have the hardest time judging. I tend to be all over the place with pace and my running confidence has a looooong way to go. Sometimes I quit during a workout and other times I push further than planned. I confuse myself.

Inspired by my new favorite blogger’s early posts, I’d like to set monthly goals. I like the idea of having random goals beyond completing the training I’ve set for myself. So here’s my first go at it!

-          Ride or run with someone new

-          Ride or run a new route

-          Complete a speed work out as I originally planned it (not as I modified it during the run)

-          Spend my Alaska cruise enjoying quality time with my family and don’t get caught up in training for just this one week

-          Don’t over eat on the cruise (hardest goal of all!)

-          Decide if I’ll do White Lake International or Half

Ok that last one might seem a bit surprising but I’ll elaborate in another post. Overall, this month is about getting in a solid month of training before the race season kicks into high gear for me and also keeping in mind what else is important in life. So here's to pushing hard this month!
