Swam: 3000m
Rode: 91 miles
Ran: 24 miles
Strength training: 50 min
Total hours: 11 hr 25 min
This past week I decided to reduce hours before going
into this next week which will be high volume. Mostly that involved only doing
one swim instead of two which wasn’t my original plan but I had to switch
around my schedule so I could go out of town for the weekend. And let me tell you,
that one swim was horrible! I had to fight for each and every lap. Each lap I
had to convince myself not to quit. By the last set my shoulder was started to
get a bad pain in it probably due to strength training the day before. I told
myself to move on and accept the bad swim for what it was. Not every workout
can be good, there will be bad days. I decided to instead focus on having a
good ride that night and a good ride it was! Each week I try to lead a bit more
so I’m not taking advantage of drafting as much. This week was the fastest we’ve
done that route, with me leading more than before and fewer stops. Total success
which made me feel better about the morning failure.
Friday morning we drove to Virginia to visit my family
for the holiday weekend. Leaving at 3AM gave me plenty of time to fit a ride in
during the afternoon. W&OD trail is always a good option especially if I
want to get in some flat rides. Saturday morning I planned a 9 miles run but
due to poor planning at the end I wasn’t near the house at 9 miles so went to
9.65. Longest run I’ve done since my half marathon. Boy oh boy do I like cooler
weather! Always amazed how much of a difference it makes. I was really learning
to like running in the rain just as it stopped 15 minutes in. Last time I ran
in the rain was January and it was very cold. That was not enjoyable at all.
Today I headed back to W&OD for a brick, 40 mile ride and 2 mile run. 30
minutes in I realized how much I had to pee. Thank goodness one my sisters lives
close to the trail so I was able to stop by her house on the way back otherwise
I would have gotten race practice at peeing while riding (still not sure I’ll
be able to bring myself to do that). Of course the dumb dumb I am, I didn’t bother charging my watch
even though I knew it was low so it died 30 miles into the ride. Trail mile
makers to the rescue!
Oh and in case you were curious how the whole “drop a few
pounds” thing was going, let’s just say those pounds aren’t going anywhere but
they are making some new friends. In just the last three days…
Cupcakes: 4
Slices of pie: 1
Slices of cake… with ice cream: 3
Cake batter: I don’t want to talk about it
Left over frosting: Less than the cake batter?
Pounds gained: I’m afraid to get on the scale tomorrow
It was a holiday! Does that excuse not count? I’m
becoming increasingly more concerned about my self-control while on the cruise
next week.
Overall pretty happy with how the week went (we’re
pretending the dessert disaster didn’t happen). Don’t feel too tired which is
good since this week I’m hoping to exhaust myself. Despite not enjoying all the
time getting stiff in the car, I got to enjoy some quality family time and cool
off after my run at my sisters on this!!!
